WishTree by Katherine Applegate

In the book, WishTree, by Katherine Applegate, is about a 200 year old Oak tree named Red telling his perspective on life and how everything goes for it. Red doesn’t go by any gender. The reason why people call Red, “Wish Tree,” is because on every May 1st, people write their wishes on a ribbon or a piece of paper and tie it around his branches. Red or any other animal is not allowed to talk to humans “for their own safety.” WishTree takes the job very seriously. Red hears people talking about their hard times. Red is sometimes is desperate to talk but it’s difficult for him not to. The problem is that Red might get cut down, but then something unexpected happens at the end of this book.
